"Spinach tops my list for best leafy green for weight loss for a couple of reasons," Jenny Champion, MS, RD, CPT, tells Eat This, Not That! 

Champion says spinach is "super low-cal," and "cutting calories is an age-old method for shedding pounds and it's still effective today." 

Champion says "it's super low carb," while Healthline says 3.5 ounces of raw spinach have 3.6 grams of carbohydrates. "Research has shown

time and time again, cutting carbs promotes weight loss," Champion adds. "Spinach is a great way to keep up your veggie intake while you're on a low carb diet."

Finally, Champion says spinach provides "super high fiber," which "keeps you full and regular in the bathroom, which is ideal if you're cutting portions."

Champion says "Too much nice is not better. Eating too many greens can disrupt your thyroid and make weight loss difficult." Also, "eating

large amounts of spinach can lead to the development of kidney stones—especially if you're prone to stone-forming."
